Do you like pizza? What about robots? How about we sweeten that deal and throw in robotic automation that specializes in tossing (pizza) dough? When you think about robotic automation, we bet you didn’t think pizza. Turns out, we associate robotic automation with a lot of things in our regular, daily lives. Robotic process automation and artificial intelligence combine for a complete package to remove repetitive tasks from daily life.
What Is Robotic Automation?
“Robotic automation is defined as applying technology to manipulate data, process a transaction, trigger a response, or communicate with other digital systems. The automation replaces tasks traditionally performed by a human.”
Contrary to what may first come to mind, robotic automation does not only refer to psuedo-artificial humans. Real life examples of robotic automation are ATM machines or smartphones. Automation for the people or robotic automation is such an integrated part of everyday life, that we actually take them for granted.
Next Newest Coworker
Almost half of all employable jobs will be replaced by robotic automation according to WashingtonPost. It’s not something to fear. Just something to keep in mind.
After all, new jobs will replace the old jobs robots are now doing. The best part is the old jobs can be repetitive and boring. The new jobs will most likely be focused on creativity and problem solving. Much more fun. And there will always be people who need to supervise the robotic workers. Robotic process automation is coming of age and there is so much more in the future.
To safely work with humans, “in 1942 Isaac Asimov set out three laws of robotics in his short story ‘Runaround’. The first law of robotics centered on the safety of people states: ‘A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.’”
Real Life Examples
Zume Pizza is a pizza delivery startup in San Francisco that uses robot assistance to help make those delicious pies.
You may think this is just another bunch of geeks breathing heavy over their robot creations. But Zume Pizza actually began with a humanitarian goal in mind and “according to CEO and co-founder Julia Collins. ‘We wanted to identify places where humans were overtaxed physically, bored, or whether the job they were doing was not safe, like sticking their hand into a 600 degree oven for six hours a day.’”
Sounds good to us. We’ll take a supreme, extra-veggie medium pizza to-go, please! Order up.
There are many new ideas and innovations coming to make your life easier and better. Many companies trying to break into this new and exciting world.
Word Up:
From not knowing what robotic automation is at all to realizing automated robotic friends live among you and can make you pizzas, life today is pretty cool.
What else can be automated?
