Community: the people who make the rewards worth having

SwomiBuzz will be a community before it is a catalogue. Members gather around shared interests, post honest picks, answer each other's questions, and collect points for the help they give.

Interest groups

Join as many groups as you like and leave any of them at any time. Groups are where members swap tips and picks, and they are what a line such as "popular with members who like Coffee" is counted from.

Example groups

  • Home cookingWeeknight recipes, kitchen kit, what is worth buying in bulk.
  • OutdoorsTrails, gear that lasts, weekend trips.
  • StyleWhat fits, what lasts, what is new.
  • BooksWhat to read next, swaps and book clubs.
  • CoffeeBeans, brewing and the cafés members love.
  • TravelTrips worth taking, packing, places off the usual list.
  • MoviesWhat is on and what is worth seeing.
  • PetsFood, toys and the gear that survives them.
  • Home and gardenFixes, plants and small projects.
  • GamingNew releases, early access and community nights.
  • TechGadgets, setups and what is worth an upgrade.
  • Small businessTools, services and tips from other owners.

Contributions that count

Most people want a way to collect points that doesn't depend on buying something. In the LoyalT 2025 study of 15,000 Canadians, 76% of Gen Z respondents wanted to collect points other than by making a purchase, by sharing reviews or content, referring friends or answering surveys.[1] On SwomiBuzz that is the main way points arrive.

Example values

ContributionPointsThe rule
Write an honest review+50Any review, whatever it says.
Answer a member's question+15For a real answer, once per question.
Take a short survey+25Each survey says how long it takes before you start.
Share a how-to, photo or video+40Your own content, with the disclosure line if it shows a reward.
Invite a friend who joins+200Single-level: only for people you invite yourself.
Host a meetup or a swap+100Once the event has taken place.
Choose your interests0Telling SwomiBuzz about yourself collects nothing.

Points are given for the act of contributing, never for what you say. A one-star review collects the same points as a five-star one. In the United States the FTC's rule on consumer reviews, in effect since 21 October 2024, bars incentives conditioned on a review expressing a particular sentiment,[2] and it is the only way reviews stay worth reading.

Referrals are single-level: you collect points for a friend you invite who joins, and nothing for anyone they invite after that. Choosing your interests collects nothing, so nobody is nudged into sharing more about themselves for points.

Say when you got something

When a member posts about something they claimed with points or received to try, the post says so in plain words. Canada's Competition Bureau counts free products, discounts and other benefits as a material connection that should be disclosed in each post, and warns against vague labels.[3]

SwomiBuzz will add the line for you when you post about a reward you claimed, and you can see it before you post.

Badges and recognition

For the members who carry a community, recognition is part of the thanks. Badges are unlocked by contributing; none can be bought or claimed with points.

Example badges

  • First reviewYour first honest review.
  • HelpfulTen members marked your reviews helpful.
  • AnswererTwenty-five questions answered.
  • HostHosted a meetup or a swap.
  • Early testerTried a reward before its drop and reviewed it.
  • GiverGave points to a cause.

Creators are members too

When a vendor sends a creator a product to try, it comes with no strings: no post required, no script, no rights to the creator's work. If the creator does post, the disclosure rule above applies like it does for everyone.

Points are a thank-you for taking part. They are never a payment for content, and nothing on SwomiBuzz will suggest otherwise.

Events and experiences

Classes, workshops, meet-the-maker visits and member meetups will be listed here, some as rewards on the ladder and some open to every member. A member who hosts a meetup or a swap collects points for hosting it.

Keeping it honest

  • Honest feedback is welcome, about rewards, about vendors and about SwomiBuzz itself.
  • No pressure selling. Posts that only push a product are moderated out, so groups stay useful.
  • No points for ratings. Points follow the contribution, never its verdict.
  • No pile-ons, no spam. Moderators and members flag what breaks the rules, and the rules are published.
  • Your groups are your choice. Joining or leaving a group changes what you see, and nothing else.
