How do we keep up in a digital world? Not just in the sense of knowing the latest apps or being on top of the newest tech trends. But how do we prepare for living a digital life? As time goes on, our real lives are becoming more and more intertwined with everything virtual. To adapt to this change, here are three quick tips and tricks to living with more screens, always-on connection, and more online content than you can handle.
1. Rest Your Eyes
The most hands-on advice in this list, it’s still really important considering we’re not bionic humanoids just yet. Even a few years ago, people would have found it insane that people spend majority of their day looking at a screen. Sure people were watching television several hours a day. But now we’re dealing with a whole new IoT beast. That includes staring eight-plus hours at your office pc, spending your free ogling at your smartphone, and unwinding on the couch reading on your tablet.
2. Keep An Open Mind
With all these changes, it is important to keep an open mind as well. (Unless you want to be the equivalent of that old-school guy on the block with a flip-phone). Keeping an open mind is, essentially, a mindset. How to keep an open mind? Be open to learning. What you knew yesterday about technology changes every few months at least. Keeping up with what’s digital involves accepting things will not always be like this, it will be upgraded/ replaced/ become obsolete, and that there’s always something new around the corner.
3. Prepare To Benefit From Your Content
Lastly, be aware, be prepared, and be responsible for your content. There is a battle going on right now between big, bad datamining online corporations and data rights for user’s online privacy. The way the internet is set up today, corporations prefer to have full, uninhibited access to your online content – where you are, what you are doing, who you are talking to, and even what you are thinking. On the other hand, governments are really stepping up their game in defense of everyday people by passing historic privacy laws like GDPR. Also in the same corner rooting for and working towards true online content privacy is us...Swomi!
