Do your best, be grateful, and live with purpose.
With the coming automation take-over of all boring jobs, what will there be left for us to do? Entrepreneurs certainly won’t be asking themselves that question! They will be focused on leveraging all the new technological advances of the Digital Lifestyle. These ambitious individuals will survive well into the Digital Lifestyle because they have the mindset, skills, and ambitions to accept upcoming technological changes.
Risks And Rewards
“Entrepreneurs play a key role in any economy. These are the people who have the skills and initiative necessary to anticipate current and future needs and bring good new ideas to market.”
An entrepreneur foregoes traditional employment to own their own business and work for themselves. While being your own boss sounds awesome, the responsibilities, risks, and rewards they take on are enormous.
The risks? Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Every aspect of your being will be tested. Debt is a real reality for many years before the business becomes profitable. This is where you skip a 40-hour employed workweek in exchange for a 60+ hour workweek for yourself. The huge fluctuations of a new business leads to emotional highs and lows. And the unexpected strain will tease out unexpected supporters and hidden enemies all across social network.
When you look at the rewards, all this turmoil is well worth it and then some. The potential for financial success is only limited by the hard work and smarts you put into it. You have the opportunity to be a leader. And the enormous gratification from doing it through your own motivation.
Entrepreneurs will survive a world without jobs because they take the initiative to create their own opportunities.
Attitude of Gratitude
In addition to not needing a job, Entrepreneurs use the attitude of gratitude to thrive within the break-neck speed of a constantly evolving digital world. Gratitude is an acquired and practiced skill. Research shows that gratitude boosts self-esteem, resilience, determination, and energy. Regularly expressing gratitude leads to less random aches and pains, eases psychological problems, and helps you have a better night’s sleep.
The benefits don’t stop there. Counting your blessings helps you connect with people better. As a result, people trust you more too. And more trust translates into a higher conversion rate. When you are grateful for the hard work of your team, you become a better leader and you naturally improve team morale.
The takeaway? Gratitude is a superpower. Entrepreneurs experience this first hand and use it to achieve their dreams. What are you grateful for?
A Defined Purpose
Another issue that comes with robots overtaking jobs is good ol’ existential anguish. If you can’t define yourself by your job, who are you? What are we all here for? Does it matter? Before you pick up that copy of Camus’ The Stranger, let’s learn from our entrepreneur friends.
Entrepreneurs do what they do, overcome huge odds, and persist despite failure because they are driven be a deep desire to fulfill a higher calling. More likely than not, that higher calling is to help people, change the world, leave a legacy, or some combination of all of the above.
Steve Jobs said it the best, “Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world usually do.”
And when you know your “why,” you can bear any “how.”
Word Up:
Entrepreneurs may be one of the few remaining “professions” left after the workplace has been fundamentally transformed by artificial intelligence. Many people may be intimidated by taking their life into their own hands. But in our books, we welcome the Digital Lifestyle. After all, being an entrepreneur is all about doing your best, being grateful, and living a meaningful life. What’s not to love?
