Today it’s all about Yuletide. Just where did that unique phrase come from and why do we celebrate it the way we do?

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Do you wish your loved ones a Happy Yuletide interchangeably with Happy Holidays? Turns out, Yuletide specifically refers to the season of Yule – a period extending from December 24 to January 6. And now ya’ know.

Surprising Traditions Behind Yuletide

“Jingle Bells” was originally written as a Thanksgiving song in 1857.

– Yule Time was a religious festival celebrated by historical Germanic people. Eventually Yule Time got absorbed into and equated into Christmas.

– In Greece, Italy, Spain and Germany, workers get a Christmas bonus of one month's salary by law.

– US scientists calculated that Santa would have to visit 822 homes a second to deliver all the world's presents on Christmas Eve, travelling at 650 miles a second

– In 1841, the first department store Santa made his appearance at the J.W. Parkinson’s store in Philadelphia

– The Beatles hold the record for most Xmas number 1 singles, topping the charts in 1963, 65 and 67.

Modern Day Yuletide

Fast forward to the 21st century, you can keep the spirit of Yule alive with a relaxing Yule log burning in your fireplace. Or, you can opt for a virtual Yule log video burning (playing) on your TV or smartphone!

And have you ever considered drinking your Yuletide? Oh So Beatiful Paper, gives a great recipe for a tequila-based Yuletide Punch.

Hopefully this gave a new appreciation for Yuletide along with some new ways to celebrate it. Happy Yuletide!
